PHILCON 2008: Volunteering

Volunteer and Enjoy Another Side of Philcon

Philcon runs on volunteers. It’s fun and you get to see how the convention works behind the scenes. Be a part of what makes Philcon flow smoothly. Meet people and share the experience.

As a bonus, if you volunteer 12 or more hours throughout the weekend, we give you a free membership to next year’s Philcon. And if you really want to be efficient, there are some kinds of volunteering for the con that earn extra credited hours:

  • Double hours: by working at the hotel before the con opens or after it closes, i.e. on Friday between 10:00 a.m. and when the con opens at 4:00 p.m., or on Sunday, between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., you ear two hours of credit for every one you work.
  • Triple hours: by working offsite on the “load-in” Thursday (November 20th) 6:00 p.m. on or offsite for the “load-out” on Sunday evening after the con closes, you earn three hours of credit for every one you work.

Whatever number of hours you work, you are welcome to stop by the Gopher Hole, the volunteer lounge – a quiet place for a break, a snack or some congenial company.

You don’t have to give 12 hours – even 1 or 2 will help. And there are many different types of roles for volunteers. Some areas that you can volunteer for include: General, Art Show/Print Shop, Con Suite, Information, Logistics, Masquerade, Operations, Programming, Registration, and Other (please specify).

To volunteer now, just email us at volunteers2008@philcon.org and be sure to include your name, your contact information, and the area you’re interested in working. If you are undecided, feel free to stop by the Volunteer table at the con and talk with us directly about your options.

We can use people with all kinds of talents, so don’t be shy – join us and volunteer!
