PHILCON 2008: Guests of HonorGreat Guests!Guests Not Seen at East Coast Cons in Five Years or More!Philcon has a new location, but our vision is the same. Philcon will continue to be the great inclusive, regional SF convention that it has been since 1936, focused on literature, media, art, costuming, gaming, comics and all aspects of SF and Fantasy fandom. This year we bring you three very special guests, not seen at East Coast conventions in five or more years. Come meet and listen to: Tim Powers, Principal SpeakerTim Powers is noted for secret histories—thoroughly researched, actual history overlaid with imaginative fantastical stories. He won the Philip K. Dick Award and has twice won the World Fantasy Award. John Picacio, Artist Guest of HonorJohn Picacio has created covers for works by Charles de Lint, Harlan Ellison, Neil Gaiman, Michael Moorcock and many others. He won the 2002 International Horror Guild Award and a 2005 Chesley Award. He is a finalist for the 2008 Hugo and Locus awards. Scott Christian Sava, Special GuestScott Christian Sava is the creator of the webcomic The Dreamland Chronicles, with a readership of 6 million and growing. He is author of a number of books, and has worked as an artist on the Spiderman comics, a game designer, and lead animator for the sequels to the Universal film "Casper," and more. The Chromatics, Musical Special GuestThe Chromatics are a unique, high-energy vocal band that delights their audiences with a combination of outrageous originals, crazy covers, melodic insights into modern life, and a smattering of science songs. The Internet, television and fast food – all are subjects of Chromatics originals. They’ve taken their astronomically correct a capella songs – a project called AstroCappella – to audiences around the country and their CD has even flown in space! They’ve presented their “down to earth” repertoire at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, at various First Nights, the Atlantic Region Harmony Sweepstakes, festivals, concert series, and private parties. The Chromatics are performing for Philcon for the first time. They will perform the half-time concert at the Masquerade on Saturday night, and a Childrens’ Concert on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Band members are Padi Boyd, Barry Mahaffey, John Meyer, Deb Nixon, Alan Smale and Karen Smale. They have five CDs available. Updated NOV 22, 2008 |
