PHILCON 2008 : Directions

Welcome to Philcon!

We're glad that you're planning to join us at Philcon. This year we have a new location, which features free parking and easy access via public transit. The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Cherry Hill is very near Center City Philadelphia and thus is accessible by all of the major transportation systems that will bring you to and from Philadelphia. Now all you have to do is choose the one that is most convenient for you!

We are adding to these directions as we get additional information, so please do check back if you need a little more information.

Fare Change

Please note that the fares for the Rapid Rover from both Amtrak (30th Street Station) and Philadelphia Airport have changed. Please review the details and call them for any clarification you need.

Via Public Transportation:

If you are already in the Philadelphia area, in Pennsylvania or Delaware, we recommend that you travel to downtown Philadelphia, and then proceed via the NJT 406 bus, described below (see Via Bus) which stops in front of the hotel.

If you prefer, take Patco to the Collingswood stop.*

* Taxis may not always be available at this station. The hotel concierge has agreed to call a taxi for you if you call and ask him/her to do so for you. To reach the concierge, call 1-856-665-6666 and ask for the Concierge Desk.
If, instead, you choose to walk, Google Maps (Google Maps walking directions and map) estimates the distance as 1.5 miles. Please be careful as part of the walk is beside a major highway.

Via Train:

Amtrak:

Take Amtrak to Philadelphia 30thStreet Station. Upon arrival:

NJ Transit Train – Take the ramp at the 30th street end of the floor to the local trains on the upper level. Take the NJ Transit train to Atlantic City and exit at the first stop (Cherry Hill). The train runs approximately every hour and twenty minutes and the trip takes approximately 25 minutes. Upon leaving the train you will be approximately one-half mile east of the hotel.**
SEPTA train/NJT 406 bus – Take the ramp at the 30th street end of the floor to the local trains on the upper level. Use your Amtrak ticket on a local SEPTA train to the Market East Station. Then proceed via the NJT 406 bus as described below (via bus).
Rapid Rover shuttle – Must reserve in advance at (1-800-322-8062), preferably at least 48 hours in advance, and note that it is to a hotel. (They request that you call them about 20 minutes out of Philly (from the North at Trenton, from the South at Wilmington) to tell them you’re close.) Once you’re in the station, call them (again) from the main concourse. Fare is $50.00 for 1-3 people. (If you are travelling with young children, please note if any are under age 8 or 80 pounds so there are sufficient car seats or booster seats in the van.) Approximate travel time 30 minutes

Alternate Cheaper Slower Route from New York City and Northern New Jersey:

Take the New Jersey Transit train to Trenton. Exit the station and turn left. Go to the corner, cross the street and board the River Line light rail next to the parking lot. Take the River Line to the Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden. Transfer to the 406 NJ Transit bus, which stops in front of the Crowne Plaze Hotel in Cherry Hill.

Via Bus:

Bus to Philadelphia:

The Greyhound Station in Philadelphia is at 10th & Filbert Streets.
When you arrive, proceed via the NJT 406 bus described below.

Bus from Philadelphia:

Board the NJ 406 Transit bus in Philadelphia at the bus stop on
8thStreet north of Market Street. The bus stops in front of the Crowne
Plaze Hotel in Cherry Hill. Approximate travel time is 55 minutes.

Via Shuttle from Philadelphia International Airport:

Rapid Rover shuttle - must reserve in advance, preferably at least 48 hours, at 1-800-322-8062, and you must note that this is to a hotel. Once you have arrived, at baggage claim, use the telephones (dial 21) (or counter, if staffed) to call Rapid Rover for a shared-ride van. Fare (to a hotel) is $24.00/person; children under 12 are $12/child. Please note any children who are under 8 or 80 pounds so they have sufficient car seats and booster seats in the van. Approximate travel time 30 minutes.

Via Driving:

From the North:

Take the New Jersey Turnpike South to exit 7A.
At exit 7A, get onto I-195 West.
Take I-195 about 7 miles to exit 2, I-295 South.
Take I-295 South about 25 miles to exit 34B, Rt 70 West.
Take Rte 70 West about 4.3 miles to Cuthbert Rd.
Use the overpass clover leaf ramps (S. Cuthbert Road and then Rte. 70 East) to make a U-turn onto Rte 70 East.
Enter the Crowne Plaza Hotel parking.

From the South:

Take I-95 North.
In Delaware, take the I-295 exit toward New Jersey and the Delaware
Memorial Bridge.
After crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge, get onto I-295 North.
Take I-295 North about 34 miles to exit 34B, Rte 70 West.
Take Rte 70 West about 4.3 miles to Cuthbert Rd.
Use the overpass clover leaf ramps to make a U-turn onto Rte 70 East.
Enter the Crowne Plaza Hotel parking.

From the West:

Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike, I-76 East.
Take exit 326 to continue on I-76 to Philadelphia.
After about 18 miles, use the left-of-center lane to exit onto I-676
East, the Vine St Expy.
After about 1.6 miles, exit and follow the signs for the Ben Franklin
Bridge.
Follow the “From Philadelphia” instructions.

From Philadelphia:

Cross the Ben Franklin Bridge.
Follow the signs for US-30 East.
After about 3 miles, approaching US-130, stay to the left and follow
the signs for Rte 38-70 East. Take the overpass.
After taking the overpass onto Rte 38-70 East, stay to the right to Rte
70 East. You will have about 1/4 mile to merge far enough to the right.
After about 1.2 miles, pass under the Cuthbert Rd. overpass.
Enter the Crowne Plaza Hotel parking.
