There will be open gaming at Philcon and people are bringing games. More details at the con. Please join us.

Hotel Reservation Concerns

If you made your hotel reservation by 11/10 but did not receive the Philcon rate, if you have any special room needs (quiet floor, accessible room, lower floor, etc.), if you are willing or prefer to be on the Hospitality Floor (7th floor), please contact our Hotel Liaison (hotel2008@philcon.org). Be sure to include the name in which you made your reservation as well as your confirmation number.

The Philcon 2008 Program Is Available

The Philcon 2008 program is now “set” and available in a variety of formats. Set is an approximate term because program events remain fluid until held to accommodate changes in plans of the participants.

Philcon Social and Dance

After the Meet the Pros reception, join us for the Philcon Social and Dance. The Social features a Meet-and-Greet with local-area fan groups. Come schmooze with fan groups from the tri-state area as our DJs spin their tunes. Even if you don’t feel like joining any groups, come dance and socialize with other con-goers.

Learn about the groups, enjoy the company of your fellow fans in a party setting, and dance the night away.

Register for Philcon 2009 at Philcon 2008

The Chromatics to Perform Twice at Philcon!

The Chromatics will be performing two concerts for Philcon attendees: the half-time show for the Masquerade on Saturday evening and a Childrens’s Concert on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Register at Philcon

Advanced registration is now closed. You can register at Philcon for a full weekend membership or for individual day memberships.

Are You A Writer? Join the Philcon Writers’ Workshop!

The Philcon Writers’ Workshop is an annual event, which has been featured at Philcon for decades. Any member of the convention may submit a Science Fiction or Fantasy story, which will be critiqued by professional writers, and, as time permits, by everyone present. The actual criticism session will be Saturday afternoon. Send ten paper copies of the story, in proper manuscript format, to Darrell Schweitzer, 6644 Rutland St., Philadelphia PA 19149-2128 and email an electronic copy – in MS Word (.doc) or .rtf format – as well, to darrells@comcast.net. The deadline for receipt is November 15th.

Volunteers Welcome!

Philcon runs on volunteers. It’s fun and you get to see how the convention works behind the scenes. Be a part of what makes Philcon flow smoothly. Meet people and share the experience.

For details, including how to earn extra hours for any hour you work, see our Volunteer page. We can use people with all kinds of talents, so don’t be shy – join us and volunteer!

Special Program Note - See The Farnsworth Fusor Demo

Philcon 2008 has an extensive array of programs and participants, including some notable unusal options. One such program will be a panel featuring a demonstration of the Farnsworth Fusor, brought by Tom Ligon, writer and home fusion hobbyist. The fusor causes hydrogen atoms to collide and form helium (see http://www.fusor.net/ for more information). Check your pocket program for time and location.

Philcon Has Moved!

Honoring Your Special Hotel Room Requests

Whether you’ve made your reservation through the web site or by phone, you may have special requests. You may prefer to be on a quiet floor or the hospitality floor. You may need your room to be adjacent to another person’s. Maybe you need to be near an elevator or not on a high floor. Whatever your request, even if you have already made it directly to the hotel as you reserved, please notify our Hotel Liaison (hotel2008@philcon.org) so that we can make sure your requests are honored, as possible.

New Philcon Hotel Features Free Parking, Easy Access, Free Internet & More

Come join us as we explore our new hotel and meeting facility, the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill NJ. Just 5 miles from Downtown Philadelphia and 20 minutes from Philadelphia International Airport, is near virtually everything and offers many conveniences we don’t always find at con hotels.

Parking is free. The 406 NJ Transit bus stops immediately in front of the hotel. Hotel rooms and suites provide complimentary high-speed Internet access.

The Crowne Plaza Hotel features views of the Philadelphia skyline as well as nearby Cooper River Park. The hotel has 43,000 square feet of recently renvoated meeting space.

Don't forget to check the directions page for the most convenient way for you to reach the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Philcon 2008.

Come to Philcon 2008!

Meet our guests. Enjoy the panels, the Art Show, and the opportunity to meet authors, artists and editors. Watch or participate in the masquerade and cosplay, the gaming, the filking and more. Shop the Dealers' Room with vendors selling new and used books and so much more. Watch movies or the latest anime imports. Relax in our hospitality suite, and meet other fans there or at our parties and dances. Be sure to watch for the surprises throughout the con. And at Philcon, everything is included in our membership price.

Of course the very best way to enjoy the con and meet people is to volunteer and help make Philcon 2008 great! Stop by the Volunteer Desk or sign up on your registration form!
